Safety

There's another word to describe safety: "Common Sense"

Some of us may remember a phrase, "look both ways before crossing". This does not simply mean just look and still cross with oncoming cars. It means if you see oncoming cars, you stop until it is safe.

We live in a complex growing city sometimes even referred as living in the jungle. The jungle is lurking with dangerous predators such as snakes and lions whereas the city is lurking with devious scammers to monsters.

The greatest challenge is how can we protect ourselves and be wary of these people. How can we identify those we meet? How can we avoid the risks? Unfortunately the answer is that we cannot. However, we can minimize the risks.

Common things we should remind ourselves. Anyone can claim to be someone. Anyone can claim to have experience and anyone can claim that they knows such and such. How can information be verified?

We all take risk daily without even realizing it. Crossing the street is dangerous. Even eating chicken can be fatal. There are ways to minimize the risk such as looking both ways before crossing or cooking raw meat thoroughly to prevent getting sick. When meeting someone unfamiliar, you can do some of the following:

- Take down some information about the person meeting
- give information about meeting location and time with a friend of family
- request to see government issued ID such as driver license
- bring a friend or escort
- References if possible

Do's and Don'ts:
- Use common sense.
- If you don't feel right, don't ignore it, find out why.
- Do not meet someone alone late at night, go with a friend
- Stay away from dark alleys. Stay within public view
- Tell someone where you are and when to expect you
- stay within the same area. don't roam around
- Be aware of your surroundings
- Use common sense.

Rumors:
Rumors can be misleading and often damaging. Get the truth.
An example is company "A" saying negative things about company "B" when in fact they are competitors. Get the truth.

I had seen postings where a model is "bashing" and rumoring how bad a photographer is. The truth was that it had nothing to do with his work. The model was upset that the photographer backed off after asking her out.
