The Photo Shoot
The day before the photo-shoot has arrived and you are going to be in front of the camera.
You need to keep in mind that a photographer’s perspective is usually different than the models.
Many photographers can help direct how to pose according to lighting and environment but you still need to know what to do or what is going on. Some photographers can get a little demanding but this is only to help with getting the most things accomplished in the shortest period of time.
Agreements
Make sure the agreement is agreed BEFORE the shoot takes place to avoid any miscommunications. Some of the things should be discussed about is:
- How much is the photoshoot and what do you get
- Is photoshoot TFP or TFCD
- How soon can the photos made available
- Do I get prints, files or both
- Are files proofs (web size) or printable (8x10)+
Sleep
Get some good SLEEP! This is the most important thing because if you look tired, it will show in the photos. Lack of sleep may also alter attitude and that may also lead to other problems. Do not party, drink alcohol or even too much water the night before. Just be healthy.
NEVER cut your hear the day before otherwise it will look like you just came out of the salon.
Preparation and what you need.
Bring what you need and have it ready. If you plan on different outfit, make sure you have them picked, packed and ready. Not on the way out the door. If there are certain things required such as prop, again have them ready. This avoids any last minute scrambling around and extra worry.
Makeup
This depends on the type of shoot and agreement. Many models do their own makeup. If that is the case, it is recommended that you place base makeup on before leaving. This saves time when you arrive. Some models hire their own makeup artist. It is recommended onsite because they can adjust to the environment such as lighting and mood.
Location
Arrive on EARLY! This can become costly if done in Studio because many are billed hourly. Being punctual is important because this is the reputation of the model. Some photographers talk with each other providing references about model if they are reliable or a flake. As soon as you arrive, a quick briefing will be finalized between you and the photographer. This is where you put on what you want to wear and to finish the makeup.
Show time
Communication and listening skills are important. Be natural and stay relaxed because if you tense up, it will show. Follow any specific instructions given and ask question if you are uncertain. Your feedback is also important because this will allow the photographer to consider if any adjustment is required. In general there is a no touch rule so many adjustments needs to be done by yourself or the assistance unless agreed by yourself and the photographer.
After shoot
Make sure you get ALL your belongings prior to leaving. You need to stay organized and not leave things behind. This is also a good time to ask questions or tips from the photographer.
One main question usually asked is when photos will be ready. This is dependant on the photo-shoot but in general around 2 to 3 weeks you should hear something.
At the end of the day, go and relax. This depends on the individual. Some are more excited, some burnt out while some just goes shopping. Stay away from more stress.
